ABOUT
James MacLaren is a contemporary figurative painter working primarily in oil and graphite. His art explores the depths of hyperrealism, photorealism, and surrealism, blending technical precision with creative storytelling.
While studying for a Master’s Degree in Chemistry at the University of Warwick, James discovered his true passion for painting. Entirely self-taught, he honed his craft through curiosity and dedication, starting with graphite sketches of everyday objects and pop culture before moving on to intricate hyperrealist commissions.
James is currently working on a new collection featuring six striking paintings of astronauts. His work is defined by a keen eye for colour, light, and form, drawing viewers into thought-provoking visual narratives that bridge reality and imagination.
